Farmers' Leaders To Tour Poll-Bound States, Ask People To Vote Against BJP In Assembly Elections

New Delhi: After conducting tractor parade in national capital and nationwide road and railway blockade to protest against Centre's contentious agri laws, farmers' unions have once again stepped up its ante to further escalte their agitation by sending its leaders to poll-bound states to appeal to farmers not to vote for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the assembly polls. 

Releasing an official statement on Tuesday, Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM), which is spearheading anti- farm law protests in Delhi, also stated that farmers will block the KMP (Western Peripheral) Expressway on March 6 as the anti-farm law protest at Delhi borders completes 100 days. 

Farmers' leader Yogendra Yadav also informed that the expressway will be blocked at various points for five hours from 11 am on March 6.

As per the statement, several SKM leaders will hold a public meeting in Kolkata on March 12 to appeal to the farmers of poll-bound states to punish the BJP in the upcoming legislative assembly polls where saffron party is in a neck-and-neck contest with ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC). 

As per reports, SKM leaders will also visit Karnataka where farmers are getting at least Rs 1,000 less than MSP on various crops. On Womens' Day on March 8, women protesters will lead the protest at Delhi borders and other places across the country.

SKM leader Balbir Singh Rajewal said that SKM teams will visit poll-bound states, including West Bengal and Kerala, to appeal to farmers to defeat the BJP. However, addressing a joint press conference at Delhi's Singhu border, Rajewal said that farmer leaders will not seek votes for any party and said they will appeal electorates to vote for those candidates who can defeat the BJP which has failed to address farmers' issues. 

Meanwhile, SKM has also asked people to install black flags at their houses and wear black armbands as a mark of support to the farmers' protest as it completes 100 days on March 6.
