Assembly Election Phase 3 Voting HIGHLIGHTS: A total of 475 seats spread across Tamil Nadu, Assam, West Bengal, Kerala and Puducherry are voting today. While Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry is voting in a single phase election to decide the fate of 234 constituencies, Bengal and Assam are witnessing the third phase of election
Kerala continued to witness a massive turnout of voters on Tuesday with 71.31 per cent electors casting their franchise till 6 PM as minor incidents of violence were reported from few places. 71.31 per cent polling was recorded till 6 PM.
While 71.26 per cent of male voters had cast their franchise, 71.35 per cent were womenand transgenders 36.33 per cent.
The Election Commission of India on Tuesday removed as many as 8 Returning Officers (RO) in Kolkata. These officers were from Bhawanipur, Entally, Jorasanko, Kolkata Port, Chowranghee, Shyampukur, Kashipur-Belgachia and Beleghata districts.
The third and last phase of the state election in Assam which is underway amidst tight security in 40 constituencies spread across 12 districts on Tuesday is largely peaceful despite sporadic incidents of violence and disturbances in some areas, officials said.
There were reports of a clash between two groups of people over some issues at a polling station at Dighaltari lower primary school at Golakganj. Police resorted to lathicharge and firing in the air to control the situation but none was injured.
Referring to a new audio tape that the BJP had released a few days back, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Tuesday that West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's defeat is on the cards, as he coined a new slogan -- 'Chalo Paltai' (let us make the change) -- and urged the people to vote for the saffron party in the ongoing Assembly elections for a new and better government.
77.68 per cent voter turnout recorded till 5 pm in 31 seats of West Bengal where polling is underway for third phase. Incidents of violence and clashes were reported in several districts of the state.
An estimated 66 per cent of the 10.04 lakh voters in the Union Territory of Puducherry exercised their franchise till 3 PM on Tuesday. Official sources said that 66.36 per cent of the voters exercised their franchise in Puducherry while the Karaikal region recorded 64.86 per cent, Mahe 56.53 per cent and Yanam region 71.60 per cent.

The big names on the ballot in Bengal today include columnist Swapan Dasgupta, who contests from Tarakeshwar on a BJP ticket. Other big names from the BJP include actor and model Tanushree Chakraborty, who contests from Shyampur. Veteran CPM leader Kanti Ganguly will contest from Raigidhi, and the Trinamool's Ashima Patra - the Minister for Technical Education - will contest from Dhanekhali.

Union Minister Prakash Javadekar said, "Today is 3rd phase of polling in WB & yet another TMC attempt has been exposed. Last night in Uluberia, from the residence of TMC leader Gautam Ghosh, 4 VVPATs & EVMs were found & confiscated. Machines were brought by car which was on election duty. The matter should be seriously investigated."

Kerala Health Minister KK Shailaja casts her vote in Kannur, today.
"The COVID19 mortality rate in Kerala is 0.4%. We brought many social welfare measures during COVID19. People are seeing all this and they will vote for us," Shailaja said.

After casting his vote Kamal Hassan said, "The next course of action is to educate people about this cash distribution, how disastrous it is for their lives and democracy. The money dolling out politicians put the blame on the people. This is a vicious circle and we are trying to make it virtuous."

Three districts in West Bengal are witnessing a three-cornered contest for 31 assembly seats between the ruling Trinamool, BJP and Left Front-led Sanjukta Morcha in the third phase of Assembly polls on Tuesday.
Total 205 candidates, including 13 women, have been fielded — prominent among them are TMC MLAs Ashima Patra (Dhanekhali) and Namita Saha ( Magrahat Purba), BJP leader Swapan Dasgupta (Tarakeswar) and CPI(M) leader Kanti Ganguly (Raidighi).
