Elections 2021 HIGHLIGHTS: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday visited poll-bound states of West Bengal and Assam and urged voters to bestow their trust on Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) reiterating saffron parties claim of good governance. In West Bengal, PM trained guns at Mamata Banerjee countering her with politics of developments, instead of unabated violence. Even in Assam, PM Modi took at dig at Congress and said corruption and vote-bank-based governance of grand old party made Assam one of the most disconnected states of the country. Bengal Polls: BJP Workers Protest Against Candidature of Sujit Singha

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers vandalised party office at DBC road Jalpaiguri & tore posters after Sujit Singha was announced as party candidate from Jalpaiguri Sadar Assembly constituency. Workers also tore posters, vandalised party office & staged a protest after Arindam Bhattacharya was announced as party candidate from Jagaddal Assembly constituency. "We can't accept Arindam as our candidate, we want Arun Brahma as our candidate," news agency ANI quoted a protestor as saying.

BJP Supports Hold Protest At Party Officers In Jalpaiguri, North 24 Parganas

BJP supporters on Thursday held protest at their party office against the party-declared candidate Sujit Sinha in Jalpaiguri. As per reports, the supporters allegedly vandilised their office, burnt flags and posters.


Even in North 24 Parganas, BJP workers held protest in Jagatdal assembly. Several posters were set on fire and even Belgharia Kalyani expressway was blocked.

Admitting that the relief doled out after Cyclone Amphan by her government might have missed out "one or two" beneficiaries, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday said BJP leaders were nowhere to be seen during the crisis.


Addressing a rally here in Paschim Medinipur, the TMC supremo claimed that BJP leaders "arrive here in choppers and planes from outside with bagful of cash to lure voters and loot votes" just ahead of elections.


 

Narendra Modi Slams Congress In Assam

Prime Minister Narendra Modi slammed Congress during a rally in Assam and said that today there is a wave of development and trust in Assam. There is only one issue in Assam today —  development, he said. 


"Congress governments and their policies damaged Assam socially, culturally, geographically and politically. In 2016, when I came here, I was shocked to know that Congress govts ran Divisional Commissioner for Barak Valley from Guwahati. NDA govt has overcome this injustice," PM Modi said in Assam's Karimganj. 


"Decades ago, this entire region was one that had better connectivity. However, Congress' corruption and vote-bank-based governance made Assam one of the most disconnected states in India," he added.

'Khela' Will End, 'Vikas' Start: PM Modi Tells Mamata Banerjee

Countering Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress' popular slogan "Khela Hobe", Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday trained guns at the West Bengal chief minister countering her with politics of developments, instead of unabated violence.


"Didi bole khela hobe, BJP bole chaakri hobe. Didi bole khela hobe, BJP bole vikas hobe. Didi bole khela hobe, BJP bole shiksha hobe....Khela shesh hobe, Didi ar vikas aarambho hobe, (Didi says there will be a game but BJP says there will be employment generation, development and education. Didi's match will come to an end and the process of development will start in Bengal)," Modi said at an election rally in Purulia.

Assembly Election 2021 HIGHLIGHTS: With weeks left for 2021 Assembly Elections in as many as four states and one Union Territory (UT) of the country, several political parties are now on its toes to woo voters. The election in states of West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Assam and union territory of Puducherry is all set begin on March 27 and counting of votes for all states and UT will take place on May 2.


The high-decible West Bengal Assembly elections will be held in as many as eight phases, with Phase 1 of polling for 30 seats on March 27; Phase 2 for 30 seats on April 1; Phase 2 for 31 seats on April 6, Phase 4 for 44 seats on April 10, Phase 5 for 45 seats on April 17; Phase 6 for 43 seats on April 22; Phase 7 for 36 seats on April 26 and the final phase for remaining seats on April 29.


Meanwhile, voting in Assam will be held in three phases whereas, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Puducherry will go for polling together on the same day on April 6.


Voters will exercise their franchise between a duration of around 1 month starting from March 27 till April 29 and the results for all five Assemblies will be announced on May 2.
