Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has sharply criticised Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for his recent comments made during his visit to the United States. Sarma accused Rahul of promoting China and belittling India. “Rahul Gandhi always promotes China. He tries to show India as inferior and projects China as a great nation,” Sarma stated. He added, “There is no democracy in China, there is no religious freedom. Does Rahul Gandhi tell this to people? The MoU signed between the Congress and the Communist Party of China should be exposed.”
The remarks come as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has launched a fierce attack on Rahul Gandhi, labelling him a “black spot” in Indian democracy. Gaurav Bhatia, a national spokesperson for the BJP, criticised Rahul for his remarks in the US, claiming they aimed to undermine Indian democracy.
Gaurav Bhatia also alleged that the Congress leader's comments align with a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between the Congress and the Chinese Communist Party during the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) rule. “Everybody knows that Rahul Gandhi is an immature and part-time leader. But people have put a huge responsibility on his shoulders since he became the Leader of the Opposition,” he said. He further criticised Rahul for his statements against the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), asserting that Rahul's remarks only serve to weaken India.

The Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition during his visit to Dallas, Texas addressed the Indian-American community and students at the University of Texas where he highlighted the need for India to focus on manufacturing and compared the unemployment situation in India and the US with China's dominance in global production. “India, the US, and other countries in the West are facing the problem of unemployment while China is not, as it is dominating global production,” Rahul noted. He also emphasised that India has the skills to compete with China if it aligns itself for production.
During his address, Rahul criticised the RSS for promoting a singular idea of India, contrasting it with his belief in a multiplicity of ideas. “RSS believes that India is one idea. We believe that India is a multiplicity of ideas,” Rahul said, as quoted by PTI. He also stressed the importance of love, respect, and humility in Indian politics, suggesting that these values are missing. The Lok Sabha member added that his role is to inject these values into Indian politics and highlighted the significance of upholding the Constitution of India and respecting the country's diversity.
