New Delhi: Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot tested positive for Covid-19 on Thursday and said he had mild symptoms. This is the second time that the 70-year-old has been infected with the virus.
Ashok Gehlot also asked those who came in contact with him recently to get their Covid-19 test done. Recently, his son Vaibhav Gehlot also contracted Covid.
Informing about it on Twitter, Ashok Gehlot said, "This evening I got my Covid test done, which has come positive. I have very mild symptoms and no other problem. All those who have come in contact with me today are requested to isolate themselves and get their Covid test done."
In series of tweets, the Rajasthan Chief Minister urged people to follow all health protocols.
"According to the doctors, one of the reasons for the problem related to the artery blockage I had in August, 2021 is also the post-Covid problems. Therefore, taking Omicron too seriously, follow the Covid protocol and get both doses of the vaccine," Gehlot said.
Gehlot said that post-Covid problems can include asthma, frequent headaches, lung diseases, kidney problems and even heart disease. He also warned about the Omicron variant of the coronavirus.
"There is a belief among the general public that the Omicron variant of Corona is not fatal, so people are being careless. Experts are of the opinion that post-Covid problems after recovery from Omicron can be as severe as the earlier variants," he said.
On Wednesday, Rajasthan recorded 1,883 fresh Covid cases and two deaths. Rajasthan also reported the first death linked to the Omicron after the samples of a man in Udaipur, who died last week, showed the presence of the variant.

The state government ordered the closure of schools from Class 1 to 8 till January 17 in Jaipur and Jodhpur city. The government also allowed work from home for 50 per cent staff in government offices.
As per the government order, a maximum of 100 people will be allowed in marriage functions, public, political, social or educational meetings and processions, dharnas, fairs and such events. A night curfew will be in force from 11 pm to 5 am in the state.
Earlier this week, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal tested positive for the virus. He has isolated himself at home and is experiencing mild symptoms, Kejriwal said on Twitter.
