Ahmedabad: In a fresh development, Gujarat's capital city Ahmedabad will be under complete curfew from November 20 to 23 because of the spike in coronavirus cases in the state. ALSO READ | Union Minister Sadananda Gowda Tests Covid-19 Positive, Requests Recent Contacts To Follow Protocol


Ahmedabad will be under complete curfew from 9 pm on November 20 to 6 am on November 23. "Only shops selling milk and medicines to remain open during this period," the order states.

As per the decision announced earlier, a daily night curfew will also be imposed thereafter and timings are 9 pm to 6 am for each day.


"As a preventive step, the state government has decided that from November 20, there will be a daily curfew in Ahmedabad city from 9 pm to 6 am. This measure will continue until the Covid-19 situation in Gujarat improves," the state administration's previous statement informed.

The decisions have been reached a day after Gujarat reported 1,281 new coronavirus cases, taking its tally to 1,91,642.

Meanwhile, the state health department on Thursday reported 1,340 new cases which take the total tally to 1,92,982. The death toll up has risen to 3,830 as seven patients succumbed to the disease.

The government had earlier increased the number of daily testing to detect new cases and contain the spread after spotting a spike in the last few days. As many as 54,246 tests have been conducted at a rate of 834.71 tests per day per million population.

Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has deployed high-level central teams to Haryana, Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Manipur. The teams will assist in strengthening, containment, surveillance, testing, infection prevention, and efficient clinical management.

As per the data revealed by the Union Ministery of Health, the total confirmed Coronavirus cases in India as of 19 November 2020 are 89,58,483. Recovered patients are 83,83,602 (93.58%), while active cases are 4,43,303 (4.95%) and death toll is 1,31,578 (1.47%).
