New Delhi: Alleging that a witness was made to sign on a blank paper in the Mumbai drugs case involving Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s son Aryan Khan, Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut on Sunday dubbed it as “shocking” and backed Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray’s claim that the case was an attempt to “defame Maharashtra”.

Raut, who shared on Twitter a video of Aryan Khan in custody, said the police should take suo moto cognisance of the matter.

The Shiv Sena leader also tweeted a video, which showed KP Gosavi – one of the nine independent witnesses in the cruise ship raid and alleged recovery of drugs – and Aryan Khan sitting inside the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) office. Gosavi is holding a phone into which Aryan Khan is speaking.

Raut’s assertion come as this case has become the latest flashpoint between the Maharashtra government and the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at the Centre.

Earlier this week, Aryan Khan had in his bail plea filed in the Bombay High Court said the NCB was “misinterpreting” his WhatsApp chats to implicate him in the case of seizure of banned drugs aboard a cruise ship off the Mumbai coast.

He said the NCB’s “interpretation and misinterpretation” of the WhatsApp chats collected from his mobile phone was “wrong and unjustified”, PTI reported.

The 23-year-old, who moved the High Court after a special court rejected his bail application, claimed no contraband was recovered from him after the NCB raided the ship.
