Srinagar: A day after Union Home Minister Amit Shah abrogated the much controversial Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir, the Modi government is now gearing up for the follow up actions in order to maintain peace in the newly announced Union Territory. According to reports, Indian Army and Indian Air Force have gone into high alert mode after the government announced decision to scrap Article 370 in Parliament. Even the National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, who has been constantly monitoring the situation in the valley, has reached Srinagar to handle the situation on ground.

No incidents of violence or uproar have been reported in Jammu and Kashmir so far. Security forces expecting reaction on ground from separatists. The government, however, does not want to take any chances and continues to induct troops into the Kashmir valley. Over 8,000 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) troops airlifted from different parts of the country are deployed in different parts of Jammu and Kashmir. C-17s continue to bring in more troops in Srinagar.

Keeping in mind people's sentiment and amid heightened terror threat and flare up of hostilities with Pakistan along the Line of Control (LoC), the mobile internet services were suspended across the Valley as a precautionary measure to maintain law and order, police said. Even Army's northern command chief Lt General Ranbir Singh met Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik on Monday night and briefed him about internal and external security situation, a Raj Bhawan spokesman said.

The Army officer also apprised him of the preparedness for addressing any eventuality. Reports stated that the governor laid stress on realtime coordination between security forces and agencies for ensuring safety of the people and protecting territorial integrity of the state.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah moved a resolution in Rajya Sabha to abolish Article 370 of the Constitution, which accorded special status to Jammu and Kashmir, after the president issued a notification, and introduced a Bill to divide the state into two Union Territories -- Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. The Rajya Sabha approved both the resolution and the the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Bill, 2019.
