New Delhi: In a first, the 75th Army Day parade will be held outside Delhi where they have been conducted since the celebrations began in 1949. This year's parade will take place in Bengaluru on Sunday at Parade Ground, MEG & Centre. The Army Day is being conducted out of the national capital for the first time as part of the government’s initiative to take major events away from the National Capital Region to different parts of the country, according to the news agency PTI.
This year, the celebrations will take place under the supervision of Southern Command, which is headquartered in Pune. The parade signifies the formal taking over of the Indian Army by its first Indian Commander-in-Chief Field Marshal K M Cariappa on January 15, 1949, replacing his British predecessor.
