APJ Abdul Kalam Birth Anniversary: Known as the ‘missile man of India’ and people’s President, late President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam had special liking towards children who are the future of our nation. Today the country is celebrating the birth anniversary of the 11th President of India.

This day is also celebrated as the World Students' Day worldwide to commemorate the birth anniversary of A. P. J. Abdul Kalam. In 2010, the United Nations Organization (UNO) declared October 15 as the World Students’ Day to honour his efforts on promoting education.

Kalam has several achievements to his credit when it comes to the space programmes in the country. As an aerospace scientist, Kalam had worked with India's two major space research organisations - Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).

On the 89th birth anniversary of Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, politicians across the party has expressed their heartfelt tribute to former President of India & Bharat Ratna Shri APJ Abdul Kalam.






His contribution in the development and operationalization of Indigenous guided missiles - AGNI and PRITHVI - earned him the title of the 'Missile Man of India.'

Kalam had directed the project to develop India's first Satellite Launch Vehicle (SLV). He also directed projects for the development of ballistic missiles.

The former President also headed multiple nuclear tests at Pokhran besides worked in making healthcare accessible to all. Kalam also developed the rugged 'Kalam-Raju tablet' The duo of Kalam and Soma Raju later in 2012 designed a rugged tablet computer for better health care administration in the rural pockets of the country. They termed it the 'Kalam-Raju tablet.'

For his work in the stream of science and politics, the 11th President was also awarded India's highest civilian honour or the Bharat Ratna. The former President breathed his last on July 27, 2015, while delivering a lecture at the Indian Institute of Management Shillong when he collapsed and died from a cardiac arrest.
