New Delhi: The curfew imposed in Dibrugarh district of Assam in the wake of protests that took place across the state over the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019, was lifted on Tuesday. The curfew has been relaxed from 6 am to 8 pm by the district administration. This came in the wake of immensely improved law and order situation in the state, after recent protests that intensified post the enactment of the Citizenship Act.

Assam Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had on Monday informed that curfew imposed in Assam will be relaxed only during day time while it will remain in place at night until the situation is reviewed by the government.

After the curfew was relaxed, shops and business establishments were open in the city, and buses, cars, and two-wheelers were plying. "It has been decided to lift the curfew completely in Guwahati from 6 am tomorrow," an official statement had said.
