Another Tomato Farmer Strangled To Death In Andhra Pradesh, Second Such Incident In A Week

At midnight on Sunday, Madhukar Reddy, a farmer, was strangled to death by miscreants while resting at his farm to protect the crops near Pedda Tippa Samudra in Annamaya district.

DSP Kesappa came on the spot and began examining the incident. 

DSP Kesappa said: "We have reached the spot after getting the information and need to probe the incident and further details are awaited."

Previously, a 62-year-old tomato farmer was discovered slain in the hamlet of Bodumalladinne in Madanapalle Mandal, Annamayya district. Narem Rajasekhar Reddy was recognised as the dead.

Reddy's wife told the police that some unidentified men had come to the farm, pretending to buy tomatoes. They left when she informed them that her husband had gone to the village.

Police suspect that three-four people were involved in the murder. Superintendent of Police Gangadhar Rao also visited the spot and spoke to the victim's family members. The farmer is survived by his wife and two daughters, both of whom are married and live in Bengaluru.

Tomatoes are being sold at Rs 120 per kg in Andhra Pradesh open market. Tomatoes are being sold for around Rs 94 to 95 per kg in Rythu Bazaars while the department's counter is selling them at Rs 50 per kg, IANS reported.
