New Delhi: Fifty one- year-old MK Ganpati, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in Mangaluru, Karnataka was found hanging from a ceiling fan in a local lodge in Madikeri on Thursday evening.

Ganpati who was allegedly involved in cases of corruption and a fake encounter had accused Former Home Minister and Bengaluru Development Minister KJ George and ADGP (Intelligence) AM Prasad for harassing him in an interview to a local channel, few hours before his death.

Ganpati left a suicide note that doesn't clarify the reason behind taking the extreme step. Reportedly, Ganpati had started off as a Sub-Inspector in 1991 and after working at various places, he was finally promoted to the post of the Deputy SP. However, he wasn't happy with the new post.

This is the second case of a Deputy Superintendent of Police committing suicide in Karnataka in the last seven days. On July 5, the body of Kallappa Handibag of Chikmagalur region was found hanging in his father-in-law's home at Murgod after he was accused of kidnapping a businessman for ransom.

Opposition leader in the Assembly Jagadish Shettar said that BJP would launch a protest to demand the resignation of guilty police officials and the politicians.
