New Delhi: Coming down heavily on the Congress over the Income Tax raids at the premises linked to party leader Dheeraj Sahu, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday said the Congress is silent on the issue as "corruption is in their nature”, news agency ANI reported. Slamming the I.N.D.I alliance, Shah said the parties in the Opposition bloc are “silent” as they fear that their “secrets will be revealed”.

“I understand Congress is silent as corruption is in their nature but JDU, RJD, DMK, and SP all are sitting silently...Now I understand why a campaign was run against PM Narendra Modi that agencies are being misused. It was run because there was a fear in their mind that all the secrets of their corruption would be revealed,” ANI quoted Amit Shah as saying.

The total amount of cash seized during the ongoing Income Tax raids at the Odisha-based distillery company has gone past Rs 300 crore, news agency PTI quoted its sources as saying. The I-T raids entered the fifth day on Sunday.

Reacting to Amit Shah's remarks, Congress's Manickam Tagore said it is very unfortunate for the Union Minister to speak in this manner. "It's very unfortunate for the Home Minister to speak like this. There is no corruption. Where does corruption come into the picture? He (Dheeraj Sahu) is a Congress MP. He has his businesses. He has to be answerable about his business," Tagore told ANI.

As the BJP stepped up its attack on the grand old party over the cash haul, Congress leader and Jharkhand Health Minister Banna Gupta reiterated the party’s stance saying the Congress has nothing to do with the matter.

“It's not that he had stashed bribe money. An investigation is underway after which everything will be crystal clear. However, is his (Sahu's) personal business and has nothing to do with the party,” Gupta told ANI.

Clarification Sought From Sahu On 'Unaccounted Cash': J’khand Congress In-charge

Amid the war of words between the BJP and Congress over the Income Tax crackdown, Jharkhand Congress in-charge Avinash Pandey on Sunday said that that party has sought a clarification from Dheeraj Sahu in connection with the recovery of cash from his locations, news agency PTI reported.

“Since he is Congress MP, he should make an official statement about how such a big amount of money came to him. The party has a clear-cut stand that it is a private matter of Dheeraj Sahu, which has nothing to do with the Congress party,” PTI quoted Pandey as saying.
