New Delhi: Launching a vitriolic attack on West Bengal Chief Minister for skipping the cyclone Yaas review meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday said the Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo’s conduct “is an unfortunate low”, adding she has “put arrogance above public welfare”.
“Mamata Didi’s conduct today is an unfortunate low. Cyclone Yaas has affected several common citizens and the need of the hour is to assist those affected. Sadly, Didi has put arrogance above public welfare and today’s petty behaviour reflects that,” he tweeted.
Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh too criticized Banerjee for skipping the review meeting and said “this is an unfortunate example of placing political differences over constitutional duty”.
Asserting the “Prime Minister and Chief Minister are not just individuals but institutions”, Singh said such behaviour towards Prime Minister Modi is “painful”.

“Today’s developments in West Bengal are shocking, the Chief Minister and Prime Minister are not just individuals’ but institutions. Both undertake public service resolutions and take an oath of allegiance to the Constitution,” he said in a tweet posted in Hindi.
The remarks come as the West Bengal Chief Minister earlier in the day skipped a review meeting with Prime Minister Modi on cyclone Yaas.
She, however, met the Prime Minister briefly and left after submitting a report on the damage caused by the cyclone in West Bengal.
