New Delhi: Asserting August 5, 2019, was the end of terrorism, nepotism and corruption in Jammu and Kashmir, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday said it is the responsibility of the youth to contribute in the Union Territory’s development.


“5th August, 2019, will be written in golden letters. It was the end of terrorism, nepotism, corruption,” Shah said.

“J&K youth has to contribute in the development of the Union Territory, it their responsibility,” he added addressing the members of Jammu and Kashmir Youth Club in Srinagar, ANI reported.


Asserting terrorism has reduced and stone pelting has become invisible, Shah said: “I want to assure you that strict action will be taken against those who want to ruin peace of J&K, no one can obstruct development here. It's our commitment.”



The Home Minister expressed his delight to be in Jammu and Kashmir after around 2.15 years.


“It is a very happy moment for me as after the security review meeting, I am having an event with the youngsters of Youth Club,” he said.



Asserting Kashmir has seen a new beginning, the Home Minister said: “From fear, terrorism, corruption, and family-based politics to peace, development, and prosperity. The youth of Jammu-Kashmir has strengthened this change.”



Shah said the transparency and corruption-free governance Jammu-Kashmir has witnessed since 2019 is the pillar of the region's development.


“Would it be possible without abrogating Article 370?” he asked.

Jammu and Kashmir was bifurcated into two union territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh earlier on August 5, 2019.


Articles 370 and 35(A) were nullified that gave the erstwhile state its special status and the mandate to define its domicile rules.
