Amit Shah Chairs 3-Day Meet Of Police Chiefs. Cyber Security, Border Threat Among Top Agenda

The three-day event, organised by Intelligence Bureau in Delhi’s Pusa Institute saw the participation of Director Generals of Police and Inspector Generals of Police from across the country.

New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired the annual meeting of chiefs of all state police forces and paramilitary organisations in Delhi, with cyber security, war on drugs and threats from across the border among the top agenda, news agency ANI reported.

The three-day event, organised by the Intelligence Bureau in Delhi’s Pusa Institute saw the participation of Director Generals of Police and Inspector Generals of Police from the police forces across the country as well as from Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), National Investigation Agency (NIA), among others.

According to PMO, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will also take part in the conference on Saturday and Sunday.

Top officers of all intelligence agencies also took part in the conference where issues of drone threat on the border, terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir, and cyber security including the Naxal problem were discussed.

Since the BJP-led government came to power in 2014, a decision was taken to organise the meeting outside the national capital. This is the first time the conference is being held in Delhi.

Similar conferences have been held in Guwahati, Rann of Kutch (Gujarat), Hyderabad, Tekanpur, Kevadia (Gujarat), Pune, and Lucknow.

Future roadmaps for internal security, that will also aim to prevent cyber attacks in major institutions like AIIMS, were discussed on Friday.

Several other issues, including radicalisation, misuse of cryptocurrency, smuggling through the dark web, extremist problems in the northeast, and border management will be part of the discussions in the next two days.

“Direct interaction of top brass of the police with the head of government has resulted in a convergence of views on crucial challenges faced by the country and the emergence of doable recommendations,” an official said.

According to reports, plans will also be made to check drug deals and crack down on narco-terrorism. Coastal security will also be on the agenda of the meeting, in which special action plans against gangsters and terrorist nexus are expected to be discussed.
