New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah has arrived in Jammu for a two day visit to the Union Territory. He was received by Union Minister Jitendra Singh, reports news agency ANI. The Home Minister along with J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha chaired security review meeting with top officials.
Shah also handed over job appointment letters to the families of martyred police personnel at Raj Bhawan in Jammu.
The Home Minister will preside as chief guest for the CRPF Raising Day. He will be participating in the 83rd Raising Day programme of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) on March 19 in Jammu.
This will be the first time when the CRPF Raising Day will be celebrated outside the national capital.
Meanwhile, this is the second visit of Shah to Jammu in the last five months. Earlier, he had visited Jammu and Kashmir for five days. On March 19, 1950, then Home Minister, Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel presented colours to the CRPF after the CRPF Act was enacted and the force rechristened to its present name. The CRPF was raised in 1939 as the Crown Representative's Police.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also expected to visit Jammu and Kashmir, first time after the abrogation of Article 370, on April 24 on the occasion of Panchayati Raj Day, sources told ABP News.
Panchayat elections were last held in Jammu and Kashmir in 2018. Recently, the killing of three sarpanches by militants in J&K has brought back the spotlight on the security of panchs and sarpanchs.
On March 12, sarpanch Shabir Ahmad Mir from Adoura was shot dead by militants in South Kashmir's Kulgam district. This was the third such killing in the month.
