Alwar Rape Case: Minorities Commission Takes Suo Moto Cognizance & Seeks Report By Jan 24
The Rajasthan police had said in the prima facie evidence that the case is of gang rape and the victim was injured with sharp objects in her private parts.
New Delhi: The National Commission for Minorities (NCM) has sought a report from the Rajasthan chief Secretary by January 24 after taking suo moto cognizance of the Alwar rape case that took place on January 11.
“Iqbal Singh Lalpura, Chairman, National Commission for Minorities has taken suo moto cognizance of reports appearing in the media regarding the sexual assault of a girl reportedly belonging to Minority Community at Alwar, Rajasthan on 11th of January, 2022,” read the statement issued by NCM.
According to news agency ANI, the report has been sought under Section 9 (d) of the NCM Act 1992. The commission has sought to know if the accused have been arrested, and under which section have they been arrested. In case the arrests have not been made, then what actions have been taken to arrest the accused and avoid any such incidents in the future.
The Rajasthan police had earlier said that the case is of gang rape and the victim was injured with sharp objects in her private parts. However, on Friday the police said that according to the 16-year-old victim’s medical report there are fewer chances of sexual assault.
The incident took place on Tuesday, January 11 when a speech impaired 16-year-old girl was found on a bridge near the Tijara Fatak in a pool of blood. After some investigation, the police revealed that she had traveled 25 km from her home in an auto-rickshaw. The investigation is still going on.
Meanwhile, a Special Investigation Team has been formed to investigate the case, and the Rajasthan Human Rights Commission has sought a report from the Superintendent of Police by January 18.
