Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann on Friday said that the law and order situation in the state is under control. "Punjab Police is capable. For ten years, bullets were fired at social bonding in Punjab. Nonetheless, people desire to live together. Ours is a peaceful state," the chief minister said.
The chief minister's statement was in response to the questions asked by the reporters on the recent incident that happened in Ajnala.
News agency ANI posted a video of Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann's video, in which he can be seen sitting alongside Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and former Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray.
"You have wrong info. Law & order in Punjab under control. Punjab Police is capable. Bullets were fired at social bonding in Punjab for 10 yrs. But people want to live together. Ours is a peaceful state...," the chief minister said.
Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav On The Incident:
A day after supporters of Amritpal Singh, a preacher, and Khalistani sympathiser, stormed a police station, Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav stated on Friday that the demonstrators used the holy Guru Granth Sahib as a shield and attacked police officials in a 'cowardly' way, injuring six of them. Despite promises of a peaceful protest, police stated the protestors utilised sharp-edged weapons.
"The demonstration was permitted when police were attacked in a cowardly manner with sharp-edged weapons, stones, and bricks under the cover of Palki Sahib of Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji," Yadav said, adding that six security personnel were injured in the incident, PTI reported.
Ajnala Incident:
Amritpal Singh's supporters, some armed with swords and weapons, burst past barricades and stormed into a police station in Ajnala on Thursday, demanding that kidnapping accused Lovepreet Singh be released.
Amritpal Singh, the leader of the 'Waris Punjab De,' and his supporters also arrived in a vehicle carrying a copy of the Guru Granth Sahib in order to do an "amrit sanchar" (a Sikh rite) at the police station.
Amritpal Singh's aide and kidnapping accused Lovepreet Singh 'Toofan' walked out of Ajnala jail on Friday following the incident.
According to Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav, the demonstrators used the holy Guru Granth Sahib as a shield and attacked police officers in a cowardly manner, injuring six of them.
Despite promising a peaceful demonstration, the protesters utilised sharp-edged weapons, according to reports.
