On Wednesday, clashes broke out between AIADMK workers and supporters of Rajya Sabha member Sasikala Pushpa outside the ruling party's office in Chennai.
Sasikala Pushpa has expressed her wish to contest for the party's general secretary post. Sasikala was expelled from the AIADMK
sometime back but did not resign from the Rajya Sabha.
Earlier, Sasikala’s name came to light when she had accused former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa of slapping her. MP Sasikala Pushpa alleged in the Rajya Sabha that her “leader” — she stopped short of directly naming AIADMK chief J Jayalalithaa had slapped her and was forcing her to resign from the House.
Thereafter, AIADMK headquarters in Chennai issued a statement sacking Pushpa for bringing ill repute to the party and Jayalalithaa.
Party sources said Jayalalithaa had pulled up Pushpa and sought a written apology as well as her resignation as Rajya Sabha MP. “Pushpa apologised but refused to resign,” a senior leader said.
Although Sasikala was expected to come in person, but instead, her supporters entered the premises to file nomination papers on her behalf. Sasikala's husband and her lawyer were badly injured and were taken to a nearby hospital.
