New Delhi: Several politicians from various parts of the country condoled the death of Rajya Sabha member Ahmed Patel and lauded his intelligence and perseverance as well as his role in strengthening the Congress party. Patel (71), the Congress's top strategist, died in a Gurugram hospital early Wednesday morning. Ahmed Patel passed away this morning at 3.30 a.m. at the age of 71 years after Covid-19 complication in Gurugram's Medanta Hospital.

Leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Rahul Gandi, Sonia Gandhi, former Finance Minister P Chidambaram and others took to Twitter and expressed grief over the demise of veteran leader.

More than month after testing positive for Covid-19 infection, Patel was under treatment at a Gurugram-based hospital. He was being monitored by a team of doctors.

Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra condoled Patel's demise, saying he was not only a wise and experienced colleague to whom she constantly turned for advice and counsel, but also a friend "who stood by us all, steadfast, loyal, and dependable to the end".
