Agra: A 16-year-old girl in Uttar Pradesh was pushed to end her life after her neighbour posted objectionable photos of her online. Using a fake account the neighbour posted photos and videos of her on social media. 


Four days after she filed a complaint, the girl hung herself at her home on Sunday evening.

The 16-year-old had filed a complaint at Etmadpur Police Station against 20-year-old Vishal, his mother Preeti, father Raju and their relative Suraj Rathore for blackmailing her, the police said according to PTI. 


About two weeks ago, the accused had posted the objectionable content on social media, the account was suspended after the minor dialled the 1090 women's helpline number the police told reporters.


In her complaint, filed on May 19th, the Dalit minor alleged that Vishal had been blackmailing her with the images and videos he had captured saying that he would post them if she didn't pay him Rs 1.5 lakh. Circle Officer Archana Singh said that the accused, who had been absconding since the complaint was filed was arrested on Monday evening according to PTI.


Superintendent of Police, West (Agra Rural) Satyajeet Gupta told PTI that a case has been lodged against him under the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) (SC/ST) Act, 1989; the Protection Of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act; the Information Technology (IT) Act and relevant Sections of the Indian Penal Code, including blackmailing.
