The shooter of the Chota Shakeel gang, Laik Ahmed Fida Hussain Sheikh, was arrested on Friday by Pydhonie Police, Maharashtra near Thane railway station. The 50 year old man is an accused in the murder case of a member of the arrested underworld don Chhota Rajan gang, said a Mumbai Police official while talking to the news agency ANI. On April 2 1997, the accused along with his accomplices shot dead Munna Dhari who was a member of the arrested underworld don Chhota Rajan gang.
After the murder, he was arrested by the police and a case against him was filed under Section 302, 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 3, 25 of the Arms Act. the official added, "After this, the accused was released on bail by a court in the year 1998."
As per the official, since 1998, the accused went underground and did not appear in any court hearing. Following this absence, the court declared him to be an absconder. ANI reported that the Police got information from secret sources that the accused lived in Mumbra. After getting this information, they reached the address but he was not found, nor did anyone recognize him.
After this, the police also received information that the accused worked as a taxi driver at the Thane campus. After tracing Sheikh's phone, police traced the location of Sheikh and arrested him on Friday by setting a trap near Thane railway station, ANI reported.
Last year, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested two associates of gangster Chhota Shakeel from the western suburbs of Mumbai for allegedly handling the illegal activities and financial transactions of the crime syndicate controlled by fugitive underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, news agency PTI reported an official as saying on Friday. The accused, identified as Arif Abubakar Shaikh (59) and Shabbir Abubakar Shaikh (51), were placed under arrest on Thursday, the official informed.
"Both of them were apprehended from the western suburbs by an NIA team, which is probing the cases against Dawood Ibrahim's syndicate," the official said as he informed that the duo was closely associated with gangster Chhota Shakeel and involved in the cartel run by Ibrahim.
