New Delhi: Actor Prakash Raj on Thursday reacted to a social media post claiming that he was joining the BJP, saying they may have “tried” to get him on their side but weren’t “rich enough” to do so.

The post on social media platform X, from the handle that goes by the name ‘The Skin Doctor’, claimed that the actor was joining the BJP at “3 pm” on Thursday.

A strident critic of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP-led NDA government, the actor, however, silenced all rumours linking him to the ruling party at the Centre, saying they couldn’t “buy” him.

“I guess they tried…must have realised they were not rich enough (ideologically) to buy me…what do you think friends #justasking,” the actor, who is a prominent face in the South Indian film industry while also appearing in negative and character roles in Bollywood, posted from his official handle on X.

Significantly, his tweet, shutting down all the buzz around him joining the BJP, was posted at 2.56 pm on Thursday, barely minutes before he was rumoured to be joining the ruling party at the Centre.

Reacting to the actor’s post, scotching rumours of his foray into politics, a user commented, “Eminent was the giveaway.”

Another posted, “LOL!! Didn’t you lose deposit in the previous (and your debut) election?”

Earlier, the actor was summoned by the Directorate of Enforcement (ED) in connection with an alleged ponzi scheme involving a jewellery firm.

According to the central investigating agency, the alleged ponzi scheme was worth Rs 100 crore.

The agency said that the summons to the actor was part of an ongoing investigation into an alleged bogus deposit scheme launched by the jewellery firm.

The agency directed the actor, who was allegedly the brand ambassador of the jewellery firm, to report for questioning in connection with the alleged ponzi scheme on December 5, last year.
