The Federation of Resident Doctors Association (FORDA) had earlier called for a strike in New Delhi on 19th December 2018 demanding the government to meet their demands on 7th Pay Commission. However, the same was called off as FORDA managed to get a positive response and the strike was called off, which otherwise would have affected the OPD services and added to the woes of ailing patients.
“It was a great day for resident doctors of Delhi Government Hospitals today! After multiple meetings with the concerned authorities with no fruitful result, to calling for a Strike on December 19, we have achieved the desired result. 7th pay commission has been implemented in Delhi Government Hospitals and the salaries of Resident Doctors will be upgraded accordingly,” stated Dr Sumedh Sandanshiv, President, FORDA.
Currently, the resident doctors at medical colleges that come under the University Grant Commission (UGC) get paid as per the 7th CPC. These include BHU, AMU, JAMIA HAMDARD and UCMS. The demand of resident doctors of Delhi government hospitals is to bring their salaries at par with others by implementing the pay hike as per the 7th Pay Commission. At present, these doctors are paid according to the 6th Pay Commission pay scales.
