New Delhi: At least seven people died and two were injured after a car fell into a canal in the Sambalpur district of Odisha during early hours on Friday, police said, as reported by PTI.
Prabhas Dansena, Sub-Collector, Sambalpur said that victims were returning after attending a wedding function.
The police said that the people in the vehicle were returning home in Badadhara in Jharsuguda district after attending a wedding in Paramanpur on Thursday, the PTI report said.
Sambalpur collector Ananya Das told PTI that six people died on the spot, while one person died after being taken to a hospital. Police said two of the four people injured in the incident are critical.
Kerala Bus Accident
A bus carrying Sabarimala pilgrims fell into a gorge at Elavunkal near Nilakkal in the Pathanamthitta district on Tuesday. Seven children are among the 68 passengers on the bus.
The accident occurred when the bus carrying devotees from Tamilnadu was returning after the Sabarimala pilgrimage. The accident took place on Ilavunkal-Erumeli road.
Around 20 people who were injured in the accident have been taken off the bus and shifted to Kottayam Medical College Hospital. Some of the injured have been admitted to Pathanamthitta District General Hospital.
Health Minister Veena George directed the District Medical Officer to make necessary arrangements to ensure expert treatment for those injured in the bus accident in Pathanamthitta. A team of experts from Konni Medical College will reach Pathanamthitta General Hospital. Kottayam Medical College has also been instructed to get ready.
The deceased have been identified as Subala Bhoi, Sumant Bhoi, Saraj Seth, Dibya Loha, Ajit Khamari, Ramakant Bhunyar and Satrughan Bhoi, PTI reported citing the police.
Ananya Das said that the bodies will be handed to the family of the deceased after the post-mortem examination.
