New Delhi: As per data of coronavirus cases from several countries, men are more susceptible to the deadly novel coronavirus than women. The data released on Monday by the Maharashtra government also backs this observation.

Of the total 748 coronavirus positive cases that have been reported in the state, 63 per cent are men.

The reason for this observation worldwide is being widely discussed. Some of the possible factors at this point are lifestyle choices and biological reasons such as immunity. Immunity is considered to be the prominent factor as men are said to have a weaker immunity as compared to women. Some studies do suggest that women tend to be more immune to infections and viruses as compared to men. The conclusive reason for that however, is not yet determined.

Meanwhile, Maharashra has reported the most number of cases with Mumbai being the worst affected by the epidemic at 458 cases, followed by Pune, Thane and Sangli with 100, 82, and 25 patients respectively.

The state has seen a mortality rate of 6.01 per cent due to the pandemic. According to the Medical Education and Drugs Department data, 45 persons have succumbed to the deadly pathogen till now in Maharashtra. The number of deaths spiked after three deaths on April 3, followed by 13 on April 6.

The Maharashtra government has collected 16,000 samples till now, of which 96 per cent have tested negative.

As for the country, total corona cases in India have crossed 4,000-mark with 109 deaths. Globally, nearly 70,000 people have died and over 1.25 million tested positive.
