The suspect was arrested later in the day after the incident came to light, Delhi Police spokesperson Chinmoy Biswal informed the publication. In fact, locals also gathered outside the police station to protest against the incident.
In a span of less than 15 days, it is the second case of sexual assault on a minor Dalit girl in the national capital. On August 1, the rape case of a nine-year-old girl sent shockwaves across the country after she was allegedly raped and killed by four men, including a 55-year-old priest. The incident took place at a crematorium near Purani Nangal village, close to Delhi Cantonment in southwest Delhi.
The latest incident took place on the day when the charred remains of the nine-year-old girl raped earlier were cremated by her family in the presence of police personnel.
All the four accused, who were questioned by the local police, accepted that the funeral was conducted without the nod and without informing the police, according to the Times of India report. The accused were sent to police custody for 3 days. However, the accused didn’t accept their crime, which was alleged by the family of the victim.
