Five foreign terrorists have been killed in an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara district, the police have said, adding that a search operation is underway. A search operation is being carried out in the Jumagund area of Kupwara district following the encounter, Kashmir ADGP Vijay Kumar said.
"Five foreign terrorists killed in the encounter, search operation underway," said Additional Director General of Police Kashmir, Vijay Kumar.
Kashmir Zone Police had earlier tweeted, "An encounter has started between #terrorists and joint parties of Army & Police on a specific input of Kupwara Police in Jumagund area of LoC of #Kupwara district. Further details shall follow."
Earlier on June 13, two terrorists were neutralised in a joint operation of the Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police in the border area of Kupwara district.
"Two terrorists have been neutralised in a joint operation of Army and Kupwara Police in Dobanar Machhal area (LoC) of Kupwara district. Search still continues," Kashmir Zone Police said in a tweet on Tuesday.
On June 2, at least one terrorist was killed after an encounter broke out between security forces and terrorists during a cordon and search operation in Dassal forest area in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district, as reported by the news agency ANI. According to officials, the gunfight erupted in Dassal Mehari village area in Rajouri. The forces launched a cordon and search operation on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday when the gun battle broke out in the area, PTI reported citing sources.
Earlier, a suspected Pakistani intruder was shot dead by the Border Security Force along the International Border (IB) in Jammu and Kashmir's Samba district on Thursday, officials said, as reported by the news agency PTI. The incident took place near Mangu Chak Border Out Post (BOP) in Samba sector around 2.50 am, they said.
