Friday witnessed four more persons testing positive for the new strain of coronavirus taking the total number of new Covid-19 strain cases to 29, the Health Ministry stated. On Thursday, the health ministry had stated that the new strain infections have reached 25 in total.
The new Covid-19 strain has propelled the entire world back to imposing travel restrictions. India has banned flights from United Kingdom following the spread of the new strain and contact-tracing exercise is underway.
The new strain of Covid-19, code-named as B.1.1.7, has been widely tracked in the UK in the recent times. On Wednesday, the number for the infection for the mutant virus was reported to be 20. The infected people have been kept in isolation and the fellow travellers and close contacts were also being traced and quarantined.
Gurugram police files FIR against 32 untraceable NRIs from UK
Meanwhile, the district health department filed a complaint on Wednesday against 32 untraceable NRIs who have recently returned from the United Kingdom (UK), the police said on Thursday. According to the health officials, the health department does not have their information about these returnees and handed over the case to the police for further investigation on Wednesday. The officials have also confirmed that these 32 NRIs were not tested for the new Covid-19 strain.
India seeing a downward slope finally?
India’s total active caseload sees sustained downward slope. It has dropped to 2.54 lakh today, lowest after 179 days. India’s present active caseload consists of 2.47% of total positive cases. Less than 300 daily deaths recorded continuously since last 7 days, the government has stated.
