Panaji: In a letter written in response to state Assembly on Tuesday, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar revealed that there are as many as 399 vacant posts of teachers in government run schools in Goa.
Parrikar, who also holds the education portfolio said that 192 posts of teachers were vacant in high schools, 109 in higher secondary schools and 90 in primary schools.
He further told the house that eight posts of middle school teachers were also unfilled.
In yet another statement over recruitment of Goans, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar said the state government cannot force industries to employ Goans, but it could provide incentives to companies that recruit locals.
He noted that as the financial condition of Goans has changed over years, they are not ready to work in many fields.
"I can't force industries to employ Goans because each job warrants a set skill. If that skill is not available locally, then they have to depend on the workforce from outside," Parrikar said in the state Assembly.
