The 28-year-old was arrested after Tamil Nadu Bharatiya Janta Party Chief Tamilisai Soundararajan filed a complaint against her; alleging that she shouted a slogan saying ‘fascist BJP government down, down’ in the flight.
The woman is a research student, studying in Canada; was returning back home and was sitting right behind Soundarrajan’s seat.
As per sources, she rose from her seat and started raising slogans against the government.
The woman has been now sent for 15-day police custody.
Lois Sofia had to meet her parents at Tuticorin airport. The incident took place after the flight landed at Tuticorin. Post this, TN BJP Chief filed a complaint with Airport police.
As per a senior officer, she was taken into custody soon after complaint was filed against her.
The opposition parties of the state have sought a release of the woman. Speaking on the incident, DMK Chief Stalin said “This matter is against democracy and right to speech. Tamil Nadu government should arrest those people who raise such slogans in lakhs. Even I would raise such slogans.”
