In a major crackdown, Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla Police on Tuesday arrested two terrorist associates of the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) outfit with arms ammunition at Chak Tapper Kreeri. During their personal search 2 Chinese Pistols, 2 Pistol Magazines, 14 live Pistol rounds, 1 ID Card & 1 Xerox copy of Aadhar Card were recovered* from them and were taken into custody immediately. According to the preliminary investigation, both the terrorist associates admitted that they are affiliated with the banned terrorist organisation and had collected the arms and ammunition for target killing in the Baramulla district, reported news agency ANI. A case against them was registered under Indian Arms Act & UA (P) Act.
The arrested individuals were identified as Dayem Majeed Khan, a resident of Bandipora, and Ubair Tariq, a resident of Watrina Bandipora, according to ANI.
The security forces effectively established multiple checkpoints and ambushes to intercept the suspects as they were coming from nearby villages toward the main road in Kreeri. The two individuals attempted to flee upon noticing the security forces' presence but were apprehended tactfully.
Earlier in another incident on Wednesday, two terrorists were killed in Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara district as security forces foiled an infiltration bid along the LoC in an operation named "Op Khakhi Patch". The operation was jointly conducted by the Indian Army, Border Security Force (BSF) and Jammu and Kashmir Police, ANI reported. Four AK-47 rifles, six hand grenades and additional weapons and ammunition were recovered. They acted on special BSF intelligence which helped them track down the terrorists and launch the Kupwara operation.
On July 18, four terrorists were killed in an encounter by security forces in a joint operation involving Indian Army’s Special Forces, Rashtriya Rifles and the Jammu and Kashmir police. The operation was conducted in the Sindhara area of Poonch.
