A daring rescue mission carried out by the Indian Air Force (IAF) in flood-ravaged Telangana was released online on Thursday. An IAF helicopter crew evacuated six persons stuck atop a JCB in flood-ravaged Nainpaka hamlet to safety. The video shows a guy being dragged into the helicopter from the stuck JCB. The car was discovered in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by pouring water.
Taking to Twitter, IAF stated: "In response to a request received from Telangana civil admin, two IAF helicopters carried out a daring rescue of six people stranded atop a JCB in flood stricken Nainpaka village. Despite the inclement weather, IAF rescue effort will continue unabated."
Earlier, two Indian Army helicopters were called in to rescue villagers caught in floodwaters in Moranchapalle hamlet in Telangana's Jayashankar Bhupalapally district.
According to Chief Secretary Santhi Kumari, two Army helicopters would be dispatched to the area. The decision was made after Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao met with top authorities to discuss the flood situation. He instructed that helicopters be used for rescue missions.
Because private helicopters were unable to rescue the trapped persons owing to severe weather, the state governor requested that the Army send its choppers.
The village is under water owing to flash floods caused by heavy rainfall. Villagers were said to have sought refuge on roof tops while waiting for relief.
Water from a neighbouring overflowing creek flooded the community, submerging buildings by four to five feet. To rescue themselves, residents scrambled into rooftops and trees.
As part of the rescue efforts, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) troops have already been dispatched to the damaged area. Since Wednesday, several districts in Telangana have been affected by flash floods caused by heavy rain.
