New Delhi: Two goods trains collided on early Thursday morning and derailed near Uttar Pradesh's Sultanpur railway station on the Sultanpur-Varanasi railway track. The drivers of both trains are severely injured and have been sent to the district hospital for treatment, PTI reported citing Railway officials.


The report added that a total of 9 wagons of the freight train, that were empty, overturned in the head-on collision damaging both trains. Many other boggies jumped off the track. Following the accident, train routes of Varanasi-Lucknow and Ayodhya-Prayagraj have been disrupted, the officials said, quoted PTI.


The cause of the collision will be ascertained after an inquiry, they said. The derailed bogies are being removed from the track with the help of JCB machine.  






Several trains have been cancelled, and reversed while some are delayed due to the accident.


According to the Financial Express, train number 22418 – Varanasi Mahamana Express has been reversed from Musafir Khana Railway Station towards Uttar Pradesh and then diverted via Rail Bareli to Pratapgarh. 19313 Indore- Patna Jnc Express has also been diverted via Rail Bareli and Pratapgarh.


13240 Kota-Patna Express, and 13414 Farakka Express routes have also been diverted from Ayodhya Cantt Junction Railway Station. Several trains like the 20401 Lucknow SF Shuttle Express, and 04381 Prayagraj Sangam – Faizabad Express Special have been cancelled.
