18 people were killed and 4 others were injured after a pick-up vehicle overturned near the Kawardha area of Chhattisgarh, according to the police.
Police said that the emergency team arrived at the spot for help and all the injured were rushed to the nearest hospital. "18 people died after a pick-up vehicle overturned near the Kawardha area. Four people have been injured & shifted to the hospital for treatment," said, Kawardha SP Abhishek Pallav, ANI quoted saying.

As per the report of ANI, at least 25 laborers, who were returning in a pickup truck after collecting tendu leaves, fell into a trench.
Chhattisgarh Dy CM Arun Sao earlier said "There is news of the death of 17 people in an accident of a pick-up vehicle... This is a very sad incident... My condolence to those who lost their lives... The government is with those who are injured... Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai is in constant touch with the officials for relief and rescue work... The cause of the accident will be known after the investigation. The administration is currently working to provide relief to the people. Action will be taken on the basis of whatever facts come after the investigation," ANI reported.
Responding to the situation, Chhattisgarh Deputy CM Vijay Sharma expressed deep condolences over his social media handle X to all the families who lost their loved ones in this accident and wished for the speedy recovery of all the injured. He also assured of all possible assistance to the victims and their families.
"The news of the death of 17 people due to the overturning of a pick-up vehicle full of workers in Kawardha is extremely painful. My condolences are with all the families who have lost their loved ones in this accident. Along with this, I wish for the speedy recovery of all the injured. Under the supervision of the state government, the local administration is engaged in providing all possible assistance to the victims and their families," Chhattisgarh Deputy CM said.
