Red Zone districts in Maharashtra: In a much awaited revised list released by the government on Friday, it has divided the states and districts into different categories  as red, orange and green based on the how the regions are affected by the outbreak of Covid-19. The demarcation of areas as containment zones will eventually help the government decide upon the lifting of the lockdown after May 3 and whether the lockdown will be extended in some regions with a blanket ban on activities.

According to the list from the ministry of health, all metro zones including Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Ahmedabad will be declared as the red zone. All metros will remain in Red Zone even after May 3.

The segregation has been based on various factors including the number of cases, doubling rate, extent of testing and surveillance feedback.

Maharashtra has topped the number of Covid-19 cases in the country and crossed the milestone of 10,000. The total number of Covid-19 cases now stands at 10,498. Maharashtra has the maximum number of Red Zone districts among all states.
