Rangia (Assam): Atleast 12 minor girls and boys were on Sunday rescued from a train at Rangia station when they were allegedly being trafficked to Mumbai, following which two persons were arrested, police said.


Acting on a tip-off, a team of Railway Protection Force personnel rescued the 12 minors from Dn Kamakhya- Dekargaon Intercity Express at the Rangia railway station, they said.

Two persons, Shanti Munda Boro and Gunadhar Nath, who were taking the minors to Mumbai, were arrested, police added.

In 2015, over 11,500 cases of human trafficking were reportedly pending in courts across the country, out of which more than 70% of the victims were connected to Delhi.

In 10% of the cases, the accused were booked under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
