The 2017 Verna is expected to pack more goodies and updated mechanicals to take on segment leaders, the Honda City and Maruti Suzuki Ciaz.
Hyundai has released yet another teaser of the upcoming third-generation Verna. The Korean carmaker has revealed a sketch of what the cabin of the 2017 Verna could look like along with the words ‘Next-Gen Sedan Arriving Soon’. The 2017 Verna is expected to be launched in August and is likely to be priced lower than the outgoing model thanks to the implementation of GST.
Though the new-gen model made its world debut in China in 2016, the India-spec model is expected to be similar to the version revealed in Russia (known as Solaris there) and Canada earlier this year. Compared to the China-spec model, this version features subtle changes to the bumpers.
The 2017 Verna’s rivals include the Honda City and the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz. Honda launched the updated version of the fourth-gen City in January this year with subtle cosmetic changes and plenty of segment-first features such as LED lighting inside and out among others. The Ciaz, on the other hand, received subtle changes and was shifted to Maruti Suzuki’s premium Nexa dealer network.
The Ciaz is likely to receive a major update in the coming months. With the competition stepping up its game, it seems like the new Verna has an uphill task to reclaim the top spot in the mid-size sedan segment, just like the outgoing model did in its initial years (launched in 2011).
