HP-Fastlane uses RFID technology seen before at toll booths and will be available from 1 July, 2018 at 18 Hindustan Petroleum stations in Mumbai, which will then spread to 200 locations across India by the end of the year

State-owned oil and natural gas company, Hindustan Petroleum, has announced that it will roll out HP-Fastlane, an RFID-based contactless payment option, at 18 outlets in Mumbai, Vashi and Thane by 1 July, 2018. HP-Fastlane, a cashless payment initiative of AGS Transact Technology, uses radio frequency identification and is similar to the FASTag system seen on Indian highways.

Registered vehicles will get an RFID ring inside the fuel lid, which will then enable the pump to dispense just the right amount of fuel. Users can access HP-Fastlane through the web or a mobile app and load the amount in advance. The company says the service will be extended to 200 locations across India by the end of the year. The RFID-based payment option should help reduce fill up times at petrol pumps by a significant margin, while preventing fuel pilferage as well.

When the registered vehicle reaches an HP-Fastlane enabled petrol pump, the RFID ring fitted in the vehicle’s fuel tank will ensure just the right amount of fuel is dispensed, thus avoiding fuel proliferation. This technology caters to fleet owners and individuals.

The application also sends notifications for timely fuel refill while simplifying the payment process through cashless and card less transactions.

  • Customer downloads the HP-Fastlane app from Play store (Google or Apple) and enters the relevant details to enroll. He/she can also request the AGSTTL sales representative to complete the enrollment formalities in person at any participating HPCL Fuel Station.

  • The customer can load money in to the HP-Fastlane wallet through credit card/ debit card/ net banking and preset the amount of fuel he/she intend to buy.

  • As the vehicle enters the station, vehicle and payment information is verified by nozzle reader.  This is done through, Smart RFID Tag – a “contactless microprocessor-based smart ring/tag” installed in the vehicle fuel tank inlet.

  • If the system is satisfied that this is an authorized vehicle, the pump receives reset   authorization from cloud and fueling will commence.

  • After fueling the driver can simply drive away without having to make payments through hard cash. Related: Diesel Cars Could Soon Become More Expensive
