A police vehicle carrying gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed hit a cow in Shivpuri district of Madhya Pradesh on Monday morning on its way to Prayagraj, a police official said. A 45-member UP police team, including two IAS officers, is transferring the gangster-turned-politician from Ahmedabad's Sabarmati jail to a prison in Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh. The teams have been split into six vehicles.

The incident took place when the Uttar Pradesh police with the politician-turned-gangster in custody were crossing the Kharai checkpoint on the highway. The cow was attempting to cross the road when the speeding vehicle crashed into the animal. The vehicle could have easily overturned as a result of the collision but the driver managed to keep the vehicle under his control and brought it to a stop.

Ahmed is involved and named in over 100 criminal cases, which also includes the recent Umesh Pal murder case, as per the police. Before leaving the Sabarmati Jail, Ahmed feared for his life and said that his appearance before a Prayagraj Court was just an excuse for the UP police to kill him.

He said, as quoted by Free Press Journal, “I know UP police’s programme. They want to murder me. They want to kill me under the pretext of a court appearance.”

Earlier in the day, when the police convoy stopped for a short break much before the accident took place, he said that he was not scared of anything now.

Ahmed’s sister Ayesha Noori has also expressed her fears about his life. She said, "We are ready to accept all the judgement. We are worried about his (Atiq Ahmed) safety. We are following him from Rajasthan," reported Free Press Journal.

Meanwhile, Atiq Ahmed’s brother Ashraf is also being transferred to Prayagraj jail. Ashraf was behind bars in Bareilly in a case related to kidnapping.
