Mumbai: Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray’s father-in-law, and Saamana editor Rashmi Thackeray’s father, Madhav Patankar, passed away on Sunday due to prolonged illness. He was 78. According to Indian Express, the 78-year-old ran a business and lived close to the Thackeray residence Matoshree in Bandra (East). The septuagenarian was suffering from age-related ailments such as kidney issues. According to a report by the Mumbai Mirror, he was admitted to Criticare Hospital, Andheri where he took his last breath on Sunday. His daughter Rashmi Thackeray is married to CM Thackeray and is also the editor of Shiv Sena’s mouthpiece Saamana and Marmik. Reports say he was cremated at Shivaji Park in Dadar this morning.

Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader and Member of Parliament (MP) Supriya Sule offered her condolences to the  Patankar and Thackeray family on Twitter.

She wrote that she is deeply saddened to hear about the demise of Shri. Madhav Patankar - Father of Mrs. Rashmi Uddhav Thackeray’ and offered her prayers to the family.



Aam Aadmi Party leader from Mumbai Preeti Sharma Menon also offered her condolences to the family in a tweet.



Today's scheduled meetings of Congress and NCP have been cancelled because of it.
