The farmers protest against the Centre’s farm laws intensified to a greater extent on Sunday afternoon that the agitating farmers blocked the Jaipur-Delhi highway and began a tractor march from Shahjahanpur on the Rajasthan-Haryana border. Heavy security has been deployed on the borders to control the crowd entering the national capital as the farmer's protest entered an 18th straight day today.


Thousands of farmers have been protesting at various border points of Delhi for over two weeks against the three farm bills enacted by the Central government earlier this year.

  1. Farmers protesting near Jaisinghpur Kheda area in Rewari at the Rajasthan-Haryana border are waiting for more farmers to arrive in order to begin their march towards the national capital.

  2. The farmers from Rajasthan and Haryana are likely to march towards the national capital as part of their protest, on National Highway 48 (Delhi-Jaipur road).

  3. The protesters said that major highways linking the national capital will be blocked from Sunday.

  4. The Farmers' Unions also announced to hold a hunger strike on December 14, when they have called for a nationwide protest.

  5. Aam Aadmi Party leader and Delhi Minister Gopal Rai said that the party has decided to observe fast to protest against the farm laws. At the party headquarters in ITO, MLAs and councillors will keep a group fast from 10am-5pm.

  6. Congress leader Shashi Tharoor also joined the protest being held by party MPs from Punjab at Jantar Mantar. Speaking to the media, the leader said "My friends here are asking the Centre to settle the matter with the farmers' unions and also to have winter session which should have been held by 3rd week of November."

  7. Punjab Deputy Inspector General (Prisons) Lakhminder Singh Jakhar on Sunday said that he has resigned from service in support of the protesting farmers adding that he tendered his resignation to the Punjab government on Saturday.

Licypriya Kangujam, a nine-year-old climate activist came out in support of the farmers protesting against the agricultural reforms and said that millions of climate activists were with the farmers. “Our leaders must listen to the voice of the farmers. We want climate justice for our farmers and also should take out a permanent solution to solve the ongoing farmers’ crisis at the earliest,” she added.

  9. On Saturday, over 4,000 policemen were deployed in Gurgaon and Haryana to stop the farmers from occupying highways.

  10. Farmer leaders Saturday said they are ready to hold talks with the government, but will first discuss repealing the three new farm laws, and announced that representatives of their unions would sit on a hunger strike during a nationwide protest on December 14.
