New Delhi: India on Friday achieved great success in the defense sector. The first flight test of the indigenously developed unmanned aircraft took place at Karnataka's Chitradurga. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh conveyed his best wishes for the major development. Calling it a big development, Rajnath tweeted," This will pave the way for a self-reliant India in a complex military system."  The aircraft has been designed and built by the Aeronautical Development Establishment, a Bangalore-based research lab under DRDO. The airframe, avionic systems and other things used for the aircraft have been manufactured in the country.

It is a major achievement towards autonomous aircraft and would pave the way for ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ in terms of critical military systems, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh was quoted as saying.

Earlier on Wednesday, the indigenously developed high-speed extended target unmanned aircraft 'Abhyas' was successfully test-fired from the Integrated Test Site at Chandipur in Odisha. However, this plane took off at a low altitude. The test was monitored through various instruments including the Radar Electro Optical Targeting System deployed by ITR.

"In the test, the ATGM hit the bull's eye with textbook precision and successfully defeated the target at minimum ranges. Telemetry systems recorded the satisfactory flight performance of the missile," the defence ministry said in a statement.
