Patna: Former Bihar deputy chief minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Sushil Kumar Modi on Sunday said that his younger brother Ashok Kumar Modi passed away due to Covid-19 in Patna.


“My younger brother Ashok Kumar Modi (65) died of CORONA at 2.45 PM in Patna Doctors made all effort but we could not save him,” he tweeted.



This comes as the state capital Patna is the worst-hit by the Covid-19 pandemic, accounting for over 3,000 cases every day.


Earlier on Saturday, Bihar reported 13,789 new cases, taking the tally to 4,84,106.


Over 2,600 people have so far lost their lives in Bihar since the outbreak of the pandemic last year.


Bihar has over one lakh active cases at present while over 10,000 people recovered on Saturday.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had earlier this week held a high-level meeting in view of the surge in Covid-19 cases in the state and instructed officials to make proper arrangement for launching free vaccination campaign for people above 18 years of age.


He also ordered the state’s health department to take feedback on the Covid-19 cases every alternate day from the District Magistrates and initiate required steps to curb the virus.
