Coronavirus LIVE: 'Isolation' Not Mandatory For Foreign Arrivals Testing COVID Positive

As per the new guidelines released for international travellers, isolation is not mandatory. The new guidelines will be in place from January 22 onwards. The existing guidelines state that travellers coming from any country including those considered at-risk shall be managed at an isolation facility and treated as per laid down standard protocol.


The revised guidelines removed the clause that mandated staying at an isolation facility upon arrival. Passengers found to be symptomatic during screening shall be immediately isolated and taken to a medical facility as per health protocol.


However, those who test positive will have to be home isolated for seven days even after they test negative on the 8th day.

Coronavirus LIVE: Active Covid-19 Cases In India Highest In Last 235 Days At 20,18,825

ndia added 3,47,254 new coronavirus infections taking the total tally of COVID-19 cases to 3,85,66,027 which includes 9,692 cases of the Omicron variant, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Friday.


 


The active cases have increased to 20,18,825, the highest in 235 days, while the death toll has climbed to 4,88,396 with 703 fresh fatalities, the data updated at 8 am stated.


There has been a 4.36 per cent increase in Omicron cases since Thursday, the ministry said.


The active cases comprise 5.23 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate has decreased to 93.50 per cent, the ministry said.


An increase of 94,774 cases has been recorded in the active COVID-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours.

Coronavirus LIVE Updates: As Cases Surge In J-K, Chief Secy Directs Employees To Work From Home

Taking cognisance of the rising COVID-19 cases in the union territory, Chief Secretary Arun Kumar Mehta on Thursday impressed upon all departments to permit a suitable percentage of the workforce to work from home.


Mehta gave this direction during a meeting of the COVID task force to review the rising coronavirus cases in Jammu and Kashmir. He directed the strict implementation of the CAB and set protocols to break the chain of transmission.


The chief secretary appealed to the public to remain indoors and avoid visiting crowded places, besides urging them to voluntarily declare micro-containment zones in the areas that are seeing a large number of positive cases.

Coronavirus LIVE Updates: Delhi Gym Owners Protest Outside CM House, Demand Reopening

Delhi Gym Association representatives and owners of gyms across the city Thursday staged a protest outside Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's residence, demanding they be allowed to reopen their fitness centers which have been shut for over 20 days due to the spike in Covid cases.


Gyms were closed in the city during the yellow alert which was sounded by the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) when the positivity rate of COVID-19 cases had crossed 0.5% in December last year.


The protesters also carried empty liquor bottles to argue that if liquor vends can remain open gyms can too.


They said that all the other activities are kept open but gyms are always the first ones to be closed. They argued that in the neighbouring states also, gyms are open and no spike in the cases of Covid is seen from the gym.

In the latest development, the Centre issued fresh covid-19 guidelines for children on the basis of 'Revised Comprehensive Guidelines for Management of COVID-19 in Children and Adolescents (below 18 years)'.


As per the new guidelines, the use of antivirals or monoclonal antibodies is not recommended for those less than 18 years of age, even if the severity of Covid infection is higher. The Health Ministry also said that if steroids are been given to children they should be tapered over 10 to 14 days. The guidelines were revised after a meeting of a group of experts in view of the current surge that is mainly attributed to the Omicron variant.


Kerala on Thursday recorded its highest-single day spike in covid-19 cases at 46,387. This is the biggest spike for the southern state in a single day since the pandemic broke out in March 2020.


Delhi reported as many as 12,306 fresh cases of Covid-19 and 43 more fatalities, while Mumbai logged 5,708 new infections and 12 deaths in the previous day.


Meanwhile, India recorded 3,17,532 new Covid cases on Thursday, a 12.2% jump from the previous day's reported 2.82 lakh daily cases.


Asserting India is not witnessing severe illness, the Central government on Thursday said the deaths in the third wave of the coronavirus are due to high vaccination. Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan said the deaths due to Covid-19 are significantly less in the third wave of coronavirus in comparison to the second wave.
