Coronavirus HIGHLIGHTS: India recorded the highest number of covid deaths in a single day on Wednesday. Maharashtra took more drastic steps to control the spread of Coronavirus by announcing new restrictions from Thursday 8 PM to 7 AM on May 1. Delhi's demand for increasing Oxygen supply was also increased on Wednesday evening by the Centre.

Over 100 Sikh Devotees Test Covid Positive Upon Return From Pakistan

Chandigarh, April 22 (IANS) At least 100 Sikh devotees mainly from Punjab, who returned from Pakistan after visiting several shrines on the occasion of Baisakhi, on Thursday tested positive for coronavirus on their return to India through the Wagah border near Amritsar, officials said.

A 'jatha' of 815 pilgrims reached Pakistan's Lahore on April 12 to celebrate Khalsa Sajna Diwas and Baisakhi at the religiously significant Sikh shrines.

A total of 100 out of 350 devotees tested positive for coronavirus through a rapid antigen test, an official told IANS. However, the result of many other devotees is awaited.

The Pakistani High Commission in Delhi had issued visas to 1,100 Sikh pilgrims. Before departing to Pakistan, all those who tested negative for Covid-19 were allowed to cross the Attari-Wagah Joint Check Post.

They were granted a 10-day visa by Pakistan and were allowed to visit Sikh shrines besides attending the main function at Gurdwara Panja Sahib at Hasan Abdal on April 14.

On their return, they paid obeisance at the Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Kartarpur on April 19 and took out a 'nagar kirtan' from there to the Zero Line located along Dera Baba Nanak on the Indian side.


PM Modi Chairs High-Level Meeting To Review Oxygen Supply Across The Country

"PM Modi chaired a high-level meeting to review oxygen supply across the country and discuss ways and means to boost its availability. Officials briefed him on efforts were undertaken in the last few weeks to improve oxygen supply": Prime Minister's Office. 


"PM spoke on fixing responsibility in obstruction cases and asked to explore ways to increase O2 production and supply. Measures undertaken to increase the availability of cryogenic tankers via conversion of nitrogen and argon tankers, their import, airlifting and manufacturing,": PMO added.

No Restrictions on movement of medical oxygen

Therefore it has been decided that no restriction shall be imposed on the movement of Medical Oxygen between the State and transport authorities


Pfizer in talks with govt to supply vaccine in India

Pfizer is in discussions with India and committed to make its COVID-19 vaccine available for deployment in the country, Reuters cited the US drugmaker as saying. The company said it had offered India a not-for-profit price for its vaccine for the government's immunisation programme.




Last week, the Indian government said it would fast-track emergency approvals for foreign-made COVID-19 vaccines, a move that would exempt companies from carrying out "bridging" trials for their vaccines.

Kejriwal Appeals States Not To Stop Oxygen Trucks

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal held a press conference and said that the national capital need 700 MT of oxygen daily and is receiving 480 MT for now. He thanked Centre for increasing the supply but appealed to other states not to stop oxygen trucks that are coming from other states. Kejriwal also said that he is ready to help other states if possible

Health Minister Satyendar Jain gave a solemn reply on being asked about the situation of Oxygen supply in Delhi hospitals. "Situation is different in different hospitals; 6 hours in some, 8 in others 10 in some others. We can't call this a comfortable situation," Delhi Health Minister said.

Rahul Gandhi slams centre over Covid situation

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday said the crisis in the country is not just due to coronavirus but due to the "anti-people" policies of the central government and called for a solution instead of hollow speeches.

Congress has been attacking the government over its management of the COVID-19 situation in the country.

"I am quarantined at home and sad news is constantly coming in. The crisis in India is not just due to Corona, but due to the anti-people policies of the central government. Don't give false celebrations and hollow speeches, give the country a solution," he said in a tweet in Hindi.

Gandhi tested positive for coronavirus earlier this week with mild symptoms and has been quarantined at home.

The country saw a record over 3.14 lakh fresh cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours.

Sitaram Yechury's Son Passes Away Due To Covid

Veteran CPI-M leader  Sitaram Yechury on Thursday morning informed that his son Ashish Yechury passed away after contracting coronavirus. He was being treated at a hospital in Gurugram.

Data For Contracting Coronavirus After Covid Vaccines Revealed

As per Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) data, only 0.04% of people tested positive after taking the second jab of Covaxin and 0.03% tested covid positive after taking the second dose of Covishield.


In numbers, more than 21,000 tested Coronavirus positive after the first dose of either Covishield or Covaxin, while over 5,500 tested positive after the second shot.


As per the central government's data on Wednesday, Covaxin has been administered to 1.1 crore people in India so far. Out of these, about 93 lakh have received the first dose and around 17 lakh have received the second dose. Among the first jab takers who 4,208 have tested positive. Among the 17 lakh who have taken the second shot of Covaxin, only 695 have tested positive for Covid-19.


For Covishield, the data shows that nearly 10 crore people have received its first dose. Out of these, 17,145 have tested positive for Covid-19 after taking the first jab. Around 1.5 crore people have also received their second dose of Covishield and  5,014 people out of them have tested positive.

Jawans Also Affected In Second Wave Of Coronavirus

Mukesh Saxena, ADG Medical, CAPF, informed that in the second wave of coronavirus, the number of cases in our jawans has also increased.


"We have stopped admission of non-COVID patients and closed OPD services at CAPF hospital in Greater Noida. 80 COVID-19 patients are currently admitted at the hospital," Mukesh Saxena told ANI on Wednesday.


"We have deployed our medical officers and paramedics at the DRDO COVID19 facility in Delhi, and Ahmedabad," he further added.

India Records More Than 3 Lakh Cases

As per data from covid19india.org, India for the first time had more than 3 lakh new COVID-19 cases in a single day on April 21. As many as 3,15,660 cases and 2,091 deaths were recorded in the country as of 11.15 PM IST on April 21.

Coronavirus HIGHLIGHTS: India witnessed the maximum number of fresh covid cases on Wednesday evening, as the count read 3,15,660 cases and 2,091 deaths.


As per the data available on covid19india.org, for the first time ever since the start of the pandemic, India recorded more than 3 lakh COVID-19 cases in a single day. Now no other country has recorded more covid cases in a single day than India.


India has so far reported a total of 1,59,24,914 cases and 1,84,662 deaths.


Maharashtra saw the maximum number of casualties at 568 on April 21, followed by Delhi with 249 new deaths, and then Uttar Pradesh which registered 187 new casualties.


Meanwhile, the data for contracting coronavirus after getting the vaccine dose was released by ICMR. According to data, 0.04 percent of 17,37,178 individuals, who received the second dose of Covaxin, were positive for COVID-19, while 0.03 percent of 1,57,32,754 people, who took the second dose of Covishield, contracted the infection.
