Coronavirus HIGHLIGHTS, May 30, Sunday: India reported 1,65,553 new COVID 19 cases, 2,76,309 discharges and 3,460 deaths on Sunday. As per Health Ministry, the positivity rate has been less than 10 per cent for the last five days. The national capital will remain under “strict lockdown" till June 7, except for construction and manufacturing units which would be allowed to resume from Monday with certain guidelines issued by the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA). “DDMA directs to extend the curfew, on movement of individuals (except for essential activities or services) in the territory of NCT of Delhi, till 5 am on June 7," said the DDMA order.
Government of India targets to procure 20-25 crore vaccine doses by July end, and 30 crore doses in August-September. Serum Institute of India (SII) will provide 10-12 crore doses of Covishield vaccine to Govt next month (June).
Rajasthan's COVID-19 caseload surged to 9,38,460 on Sunday with 2,298 fresh infections while the death toll climbed to 8,317 as 66 more people succumbed to the viral disease. The number of active COVID-19 cases in Rajasthan stands at 49,224. So far, 8,80,919 coronavirus patients have recovered from the infection in the state, it said.
The COVID-19 death toll in Uttar Pradesh rose to 20,346 on Sunday with 140 more fatalities, while 1,908 new cases pushed the infection tally to 16,90,016, an official statement issued read.
In the past 24 hours, as many as 6,713 COVID-19 patients have recovered, taking the overall recoveries in the state to 16,28,456.
The count of active cases stands at 41,214.
Over 3.40 lakh samples have been tested in past 24 hours, while so far, over 4.90 crore tests have been done in the state, it added.

The Goa government on Sunday announced compensation of Rs 2 lakh each for the kin of COVID-19 victims who were either breadwinners of the family or hailed from poor backgrounds.

Alumni of IIM-Bangalore have launched the 'donate a vaccine' fund raising initiative to donate one lakh vaccines for the countrys urban and rural poor, as part of their recovery, rehabilitation and prevention plans for COVID-19.
Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Dr Devi Shetty, Chair, IIM-B Board of Governors, jointly launched the initiative virtually on Saturday, to vaccinate people from the underprivileged sections of society,IIM-B said in a statement.
"This initiative (Donate a Vaccine) comes at the right time and such an effort from the alumni of IIM Bangalore is worth emulating; something that every institution in India can learn from," Sitharaman was quoted as saying in her address.

The Uttar Pradesh government on Saturday launched a welfare scheme for children who have either lost both of their parents to COVID-19 or the earning parent.
The move by the UP government comes a day after the Supreme Court observed that it cannot even imagine how many children in this large country have got orphaned due to the devastating pandemic, and directed the state authorities to immediately identify them and provide relief.
Elaborating about the scheme, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said, "Children who have lost both of their parents to COVID-19, a surviving parent, legal guardian in case the parents have already died earlier, will be included in this scheme. Children, who have lost the earning parent of their family will also be included in the scheme. The state government is committed to better health, better education and for the bright future of the children."
Under the Uttar Pradesh Mukhyamantri Bal Seva Yojana, the state government will provide financial assistance to a child's guardian while those who do not have anyone to look after them will be sent to children's homes, an official spokesperson said.
Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said on Saturday that the state government has set an example across the country by managing the Covid situation well during the first and the second wave of the pandemic.
During a late night Covid review meeting, he asked officials to do the master planning of oxygen production, vaccination and medical infrastructure in the state in view of the possibility of a third wave of the infection.
Gehlot said that the state government would provide adequate financial resources to strengthen the health facilities in the state.
The chief minister directed officials to prepare an effective strategy to counter the third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. He said that there are reports about different variants of coronavirus in the country and the third wave is likely to be more deadly.
"A strategy should be chalked out keeping in mind the research and study going on in the country and the world," Gehlot was quoted as saying in the release.
Health secretary Siddharth Mahajan said that the number of active cases in the state has come down significantly. He informed that the number of active cases in the state on May 14 was about 2.12 lakh, which has now reduced to about 56,000.
The Delhi child rights panel has identified 32 children who have been orphaned during the Covid pandemic in the national capital.
Ten more children, living with single parents, have lost them, said Commission for Protection of Child Rights chief Anurag Kundu.
"Sixteen children have been identified who lost their parents during the second wave. We have been enquiring about them whether they require medical attention, ration, counselling, immunisation etc, said DCPCR member Ranjana Prasad.
We are providing them the help they ask for," she added.
She said younger children have been given to the nearest Anganwadis.
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had on May 14 said the Delhi government will bear the cost of education and upbringing of children who were orphaned during the pandemic.
The government has also planned to give Rs 2,500 per month to such children and the proposal is likely to come soon before the Cabinet for approval, a senior official said.
The Centre has asked states and union territories to initiate legal or administrative action against institutions which are giving package for Covid vaccination in collaboration with hotels in violation of prescribed guidelines.
In a letter to all states and UTs, Additional Secretary to Health ministry Manohar Agnani said it has come to the notice of the Union health ministry that some private hospitals are giving package for Covid vaccination in collaboration with some hotels, which is against the guidelines issued for the National Covid Vaccination Program.
Apart from government Covid vaccination centre and private Covid vaccination centre, workplace, near home Covid vaccination centre for elderly and differently-abled persons to be organised at group housing societies, there are no other avenues to carry out vaccination under the national Covid Vaccination Program so vaccination carried out in star hotels is contrary to the guidelines and must be stopped immediately, Agnani was quoted as saying in the letter.

Vietnam has discovered a new coronavirus variant that's a hybrid of strains first found in India and the UK, the Vietnamese health minister said.
Health Minister Nguyen Thanh Long said Saturday that scientists identified the variant while examining the genetic makeup of the virus that had infected some recent patients. He said lab tests suggested it might spread more easily than other versions of the virus.
