Coronavirus HIGHLIGHTS: After weeks of lockdown in several states and cities, the number of fresh Covid-19 cases and deaths related to the novel disease has started to slow down. The country for the first time since April 14 recorded lowest daily rise in infections on Tuesday. The Indian Medical Association reported that a total of 513 doctors have died across the country in second wave of COVID-19. In another development, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Tuesday in meeting with UN Secretary General Antonio Guterre discussed the Covid challenges, underlining the importance of finding urgent & effective global vaccine solutions against Covid-19.
Jharkhand registered 977 new COVID-19 cases, 2403 recoveries and 19 deaths in the last 24 hours. The number of active cases stands at 14,196 in the state.
Goa recorded 1,487 fresh COVID cases, 1,363 recoveries, and 39 deaths in the past 24 hours. The number of active cases stands at 15,971 in the state.
Andhra Pradesh reported 18,285 new COVID-19 cases, 24,105 patient recoveries, and 99 deaths in the past 24 hours. The number of active cases stands at 1,92,104.
Due to decreasing number of COVID cases in Ludhiana, all shops can now remain open till 3 pm and home delivery by restaurants till 9 pm from tomorrow, Ludhiana Deputy Commissioner said on Wednesday.
Night curfew timing has been changed in 36 cities of Gujarat. Now, the curfew will remain in force between 9 pm and 6 am (instead of 8 pm to 6 am), Chief Minister Vijay Rupani said on Wednesday.
The government has allocated 29,250 additional vials of Amphotericin-B drug to states and Union Territories, Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilisers Sadananda Gowda said on Wednesday. "Additional 29,250 vials of #Amphotericin- B drug, used in treatment of #Mucormycosis, have been allocated to all the States/UTs today. The allocation has been made based on the number of patients under treatment which is 11,717 across the country," Gowda tweeted.
The government had allocated 19,420 vials of Amphotericin-B to various states, Union Territories (UTs) and Central Institutions on May 24. Earlier on May 21, the government had allocated 23,680 vials of the drug to various states and Union Territories.
Rs 3,000 per ration card will be given to all the ration cardholders of Puducherry to alleviate the problems faced by the people during this lockdown period. Rs 105 crores will be distributed for 3,50,000 ration cardholders: Government of Puducherry
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Wednesday that the planet will not be the same after COVID-19 and noted that the events in future will be remembered as either pre or post-Covid. Delivering the keynote address on the occasion of "Virtual Vesak Global Celebrations" on Buddha Purnima, he said the world has not seen a pandemic like this in a century.
However, he added, there is now a better understanding of the pandemic, and described vaccine as absolutely important to save lives and defeat the virus. He also extended condolences to those who have suffered and lost near and dear ones in the pandemic, and said he grieved with them.
Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) on Wednesday informed that a total of 33,48,11,496 samples have been tested for Covid-19 up to 25th May 2021. Of these, 22,17,320 samples were tested yesterday.
Active caseload further declines to 24,95,591. A decrease of 91,191 in active cases in last 24 hrs. At 2.08 Lakh cases, declining trend in new cases is maintained. 2,43,50,816 total recoveries so far. 2,95,955 patients recovered during last 24 hours.
In an initiative to vaccinate people with special needs, Gurugram health department will hold a special camp on Wednesday at Ambience Mall, located on the Delhi-Jaipur Expressway, to administer the first dose of Covaxin. The drive will begin at 11 a.m. and 100 free slots will be available without any registration. The vaccine will be administered on a first come first serve basis.

The Jharkhand government on Tuesday extended the lockdown-like restrictions with stricter provisions till June 3 to contain Covid-19 surge in the state, an official said.
The state secretariat will function with 33 per cent staff strength till 2 pm and there would be restrictions on the movement of people, the official said. E-passes will be mandatory for movement in the state but government officials, media persons, factory workers and officials of big public and private enterprises will be exempted from the measure.
The West Bengal government has declared mucormycosis or black fungus as a 'notifiable disease' considering the gravity of the situation and following the advice of the union health ministry, an official said on Tuesday.
Citing an order issued by the health department, the official said that it has been made mandatory for a doctor to notify the authority on diagnosing a case of a confirmed or suspected mucormycosis. The case notification will include sharing of all related information including the patient's personal details, history, examination and investigation findings and also outcome data in case of death, the order said.
